A Game by Cailyn Tripp

When thinking of what I wanted my game to be about, I looked inward at what has been impacting me recently. I’ve never been a big gamer, so I really had no clue where to start.

First, I decided I wanted to make my game like a choose your own adventure book (because I loved them when I was little) and that I wanted it to be hand written on sticky notes. I wanted my game to tie back to my experiences, so I reflected on not only what to tell for my game, but how to symbolically show the college experience. I could not get through my semesters without sticky notes. If I have something important to do/remember, I write it on a sticky note and stick it on my wall. If I need to flag a page in my book, I slap on a sticky note. If I have some funny quote me or my roommate said, we put it down on a sticky note and put it on our wall. So I knew sticky notes and physically creating my game was the way to go.

Then it was time to come up with what my game would be about. However, once I got thinking about funny scenarios I had been in this year and I came across one similar to my game, and I ran with it.

Last semester my friend, Tyler, had decided he needed some Kraft Mac-n-Cheese to get him through his chemistry homework. However, he had forgotten to put water in the cup and had burnt it as well as set of the fire alarms. That idea is where my game starts.

Then, the player must choose how they would avoid the smoke from the burnt noodles: run or jump out the window. Based off of that decision, the game either ends or continues to another problem where one of the players friends are still inside (this didn’t happen in real life, I just thought it would add pizazz to the game). Again, that decision either ends the game or catapults the player into another current and real issue today: do you MMDC?

Obviously in any situation you must MMDC, and MMDCing is the way to win!

I had a lot of fun drawing from my experiences to make my game and I hope you enjoyed as well!
